SmartLynx Airlines specializes in full-service ACMI (Aircraft-Crew-Maintenance-Insurance), i.e., aircraft lease services and is the leading ACMI provider in EU on Airbus A320 aircraft. The airline also ensures full charter operation for its home markets in Latvia and Estonia, predominantly in the leisure market. It also performs flight crew training – SmartLynx Training Centre is a leading approved airline pilot training company in the Baltic States providing type rating courses for Airbus A320 series.
In 2018 airline’s fleet consists of 14 Airbus A320 aircraft and 2 Airbus 321 aircraft that ensure flights in Europe, Asia, and Africa. Overall the number of passengers transported by SmartLynx is rapidly increasing with every year — in 2015 it reached 1.6 million, in 2016 – 1.9 million, and in 2017 – 2.5 million, which means 56.3% increase during last two years. The company is rapidly growing and in 2017 its consolidated turnover reached 131.4 million EUR (audited net turnover) which means 21.2% increase compared to 2016 and 42.8% increase compared to 2015.
In 2017, SmartLynx made 15,933 flights (+19.8%, in 2016 – 13,300 flights) from 25 base airports in Europe, Middle East and Asia, which represents 46,157 block hours (+21,5%, in 2016 – 38,000 block hours).
Thanks to its work outside of Latvia in ACMI segment, SmartLynx Airlines was one of Latvia’s top 10 exporters of services in 2016, according to the Bank of Latvia. The business newspaper Dienas Bizness ranked SmartLynx in 56th place in its 2017 list of Latvia’s top 100 enterprises (7 places higher than in 2016), placing it also in 37th place on a list of the most valuable companies (8 places higher than in 2016).
In 2017 SmartLynx Airlines celebrated its 25th anniversary. SmartLynx Airlines was founded in 1992 as a private airline with its headquarters being located in Riga. Latvian and Estonian air carrier certificates have been granted to the airline. Being an EU airline, SmartLynx Airlines complies with international quality standards IOSA and EASA, as well as it has access to the free route airspace.
